Reaching the Unreachable...

Project 2007 & Gallery

You will be pleased to know that the whole project went really well from start to finish, as everything just seemed to fall into place and run smoothly. The severity of the poverty was unbelievable and a real eye opener. We visited 5 villages (now adopted by the charity trust) and managed to screen ~700 children and distribute essentials to 250 families.

Approx 50 spectacles were provided and some children sent to the eye hospital for treatment of eye diseases. Eye camps & distribution was followed by a dance workshop by Rakhi Sood to help lift the spirits of the village children and leave them smiling! Each day was a new experience with new challenges to overcome. However, we were surrounded by inspiring people helping those less fortunate and inspiring moments to treasure for the rest of our lives.

Our aim was to raise £12.500 (10 lakh Rupees) but to our surprise generous donations continue to come and to date have raised £14,587.18 + Gift Aid. We therefore have raised approx 12 lakh Rupees so far. We had in depth discussions with the charity trustees regarding how these funds would be best utilised. We then decided to allocate funds in various areas that we felt needed most immediate help, as follows:

3 Lakhs (£3750 / $7500):
Immediate distribution of essentials to 250 families amongst 5 villages.
Included: sweaters for children, blankets, metal trunks to store clothing/blankets, metal buckets & jugs, heat, lentils, rice, potatoes, salt, sugar, soya bean oil with metal vessels to store, soap, washing powder.

4 Lakhs (£5000 / $10000):
Will build 2 classrooms in the current plans for a School to provide education to all 5 surrounding villages.

2 Lakhs: (£2500 / $5000):
Community Hall in Mohanpura village. This was the poorest of all villages with no school or community facilities. This hall will facilitate medical camps, schooling, weddings and general community functions to unite the people of the village.

50.000 Rs (£625 / $1250):
Mohanpura Toilets / Communal sanitation facilities

50,000 Rs (£625 / $1250):
Soya bean Grinder to enable Soya bean to be mixed with wheat (which is regularly distributed by the Trust). We hope to improve protein supply to the malnourished children, whose enlarged stomachs are due to lack of protein in their diet.

50,000 Rs (£625 / $1250):
Budget for supply of ‘sukhdi’ to malnourished children (contains soya bean, wheat and Jaggery)

50,000 (£625 / $1250):
Fodder for cows in the Gaushala (shelter for cows)

1 Lakh (£1250 / $2500):
Initial contribution for a Nursery school to be built for pre school children.
